Monday 18th - There wasn't a massive amount of interest on the 4 hour journey up the Queensland coast to Hervey Bay - the base for our trip to Fraser Island.
Pleasantly surprised by the accomodation which is fanstastic, we've got a proper self contained motel unit for a fraction of the price of Byron Bay - are you sensing we felt Byron was a rip off?
Handley - Fraser Island:
Early start as the bus picked us up at 7.25am to take us to Fraser Island.
Our first stop was Lake McKenzie one of the many fresh water lakes on the island. We spent a little time here and had the chance to swim and paddle, it was a really beautiful spot:
Fraser Island is famous for Dingos that live there. They have been known to take small people so I was on my guard! The advice was never to walk alone so we stuck in groups.
Next stop was Central Station where we had a ramble through the rainforest and saw some iguanas:
Then we went for a spin on the 75 mile beach. It was quite surreal as they have speed limits, we were advised that no one uses the beach as the sea is teaming with Tiger and Bull sharks. I was thinking it was more likely down to the fact that you'd get hit by a car as soon as you tried to lay your towel out.
We stopped at the Pinnacles which were some sand rock formations. We were told that there were 79 different colours in the rocks - but I only counted 6!
Final stop was Eli Creek a small creek which you could walk down. Michelle had a wander down it, but it was a little too deep for me.
After the days adventures I think Michelle thought she was Indiana Jones as she tried to re-enact that scene in the Temple of Doom, you know the one where Indie kills that guy in the ceiling fan. Michelle's attemp was luckily less successful, but she managed to put her hand into the spinning blades whilst taking her jumper off.
So we spent a couple of hours down at A&E to get it checked out as she had a cut and lots of swelling. The Dr's said they thought it was just badly bruised, but to be sure she needed an X-ray so would have to come back in the morning.
We headed back in the morning and the swelling had gone down loads and luckily the X-ray confirmed no breaks or fractures - just some bruising, so no need to panic, but looks like I'll be doing the driving for the next week or so.
Spent the rest of the day taking the Dr's advice and just lazed round the pool.
In the evening we headed out just in time to see thousands and thousands of bats leaving their roost - I've never seen anything like it - it was AMAZING!!
