Brisbane - 17th Jan

Hudson:

Only had time for one day in Brisbane.  Got there late morning and fortunately we were able to check into the hostel (which for a place called Banana Benders was suprisingly nice) and make the most of our time.  Headed down into the city for a bit of a wander.  The river neatly bisects the city into 2 areas.  The southbank quite reminded me of London's Southbank.  It has a big arts centre as well as museums,  They've also created a lagoon open for the public to go swim.

It was a fantastic area crammed full of people cooling down from a hot day.  Brisbane doesn't have a beach, but this seems to be the next best thing.

The other side of the river has the central business district as well as shops and some quite impressive old buildings.  However we were very disappointed not to bump into Scott, Charlene or any of the other Neighbours characters that always seemed to locate to Brissy.

That evening we went to see "The Lovely Bones" at the pictures, I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it, take some tissues though.  I read the book years ago, but can't remember the story well enough to know whether it has been changed.
