Wednesday 2nd December - Travel to Nelson

Handley:
Mammoth journey today from Franz Joseph to Nelson so we set off at 7.20am.

We wanted to take the journey at a leisurely pace so planned in a few sight seeing stops along the way.

Just above Greymouth we stopped off at Pancake Rocks.  They were pretty cool, but it's a shame that this rainy weather continues relentlessly!!

Our next stop was the Buller Gorge Swingbridge which is 110 metres long and NZ's longest swingbridge.  We decided to walk over the bridge and come back on the Flying Fox Zipwire!  Both were fun although the zipwire was a short and sweet.  But that's about as extreme as we get.

We eventually rolled into Nelson at 4pm (long days drive) and got checked into our hostel and then headed to the pub across the road that serves over 50 real kiwi ales mmmmm!!  We entered the pub quiz and did ok considering we were pretty tired, we ended up mid table.

The rain continues to pour here and it's quite chilly, really hoping the weather picks up tomorrow so we can get out and see more of Nelson without getting soaked - AGAIN!

  1. Brilliant to hear your latest news. What a pity about the helicopter trip and walk on Glacier. The weather only seems slightly better than here, hope it picks up when you go further north. It must have been really good seeing the albatross after a long wait.
We are looking forward to the next instalment.
