Handley:
Well the weather forecast lied - a chilly overcast day was what we got, but on the plus side Abel Tasman was beautiful.
Our water taxi was supposed to take us up to Totaranui bay, but we got to Awaroa bay and the driver decided the water was just a little bit too rough to make it up there. I had wanted to go up that far, but I was secretly glad we got dropped off as the boat was very choppy and I was feeling a bit sick, as was Michelle.
We jumped off at Awaroa and had a nice walk around some wetlands, saw a Fantail doing an elaborate dance, I think we must have been close to it's nest or something and there were a few shags nesting in the trees - yes one of the few webbed feet birds that like to nest in trees.
One was sat on a little wooden jetty
We wandered out on the jetty and saw some big eels in the water, not sure this pic came out too well:
After taking this pic I stood up and noticed that my knee was wet - yes I'd just knealt in shag shit! - IDIOT as I'd seen the shag above poo just moments before so knew it was there!
Got myself cleaned up in the cafe and we had dinner.
Caught another taxi to Bark Bay and started our walk through the park and that's when it started raining!
Despite the rain the walk was good mixing stunning views of the coastline with the bird filled forest.
We picked up our last water taxi at Torrent Bay. Unfortunately the taxi couln't quite get onto the beach so we had to wade out to the boat. Michelle got her knees a little wet, I however got wet through to my waist - dam my small stature and that big wave - on the plus side it helped clean that poo off!
Luckily Michelle had packed a pair of shorts incase the weather picked up so I borrowed those for the trip back - although they didn't really fit and I felt like the kid at school who had wet themselves and had to borrow some clothes from the box!
Back to the pub tonight and we'd heard that you could buy fish and chips next door at the chippy and eat them back in the pub with your beer. Michelle bagsied a table and I nipped out and ordered our food - yeah the chippy even delivered it to the pub for us - perfect!
We sampled a few more beers all of which were great, as they said in the pub you can taste a fine beer with a sip, but it's best to be sure!!
