Handley:
Our last day in San Fran, the flight goes at 7pm Tuesday and we land 1.30pm Thursday in Christchurch, including a few transfers in LA and Auckland. Where the hell does Wednesday go!?
We decided to make the most of our morning in San Fran and checked out the local library with a view to getting onto one of the free internet machines. Instead we saw a massive queue and some disturbing porn images on one guys machine!!!! I mean honestly who goes to a public library and sits next to 12 other people and then loads porn!
Onto the City Hall to be honest we went here to waste time and because it was free to get in, but it was an attractive building - oh God I must be getting old I'm appreciating architecture... Next I'll be visiting churches!
We then headed onto Alamo Park to view the painted ladies, to me they looked like any other building in San Fran so I'll pass over to Huddo to explain further.
Hudson:
Can't really offer any further explanation on the painted ladies. They were in the book and within walking distance so seemed like a nice way to while away some time.
Had a really nice lunch in a gourmet burger place in lower haight (another from the book, thanks Rhona!) A cool area much nicer than it's haight ashbury / weirdoville neighbour.
Back to the hotel in time to pick up the hotel shuttle and say goodbye to San Fran.
Had a fantastic few days here, there's so much to see and do, but don't think we could have physically fit in anything else. Would love to visit some time again, but for now I'll try and let my knees recover.
Huddo Highlight - Washington Sq, such a lovely sunny spot in the Italian District, to chill and watch the old Chinese men do their Thai Chi.
Handley's Highlight - Pelicans dive bombing for fish!
Joint Lowlight - Scary homeless people.
On with the trip, bring on NZ, just the small matter of a 15 hour flight to endure first.
Several Hours Later!!!
Handley:
Landed in Christchurch after what seemed like an eternity, trying to keep ourselves awake by writing up the last few days blogs, but we are both feeling a bit dizzy, we are putting it down to tiredness as we hardly slept on the plane.
Our hostel in Christchurch is a far cry from the hotel in San Fran, I guess that's the last of the luxury until Oz and a nice stay with family and a nice hotel in Melbourne.
The room is clean, but the shower tray is reminiscent of some slaughter house rquipment - stainless steel and huge, more cow size than human!
Alas no TV in the room, but the graffiti on the wooden slats of the bunk bed is providing much entertainment.
Hudson:
I won't repeat any of the graffiti, but suffice to say we've got a clear picture of what some of the previous occupants of the room have done to amuse themselves!!
I do feel a bit like I am back at uni in halls surrounded by exciteable young puppies - we're the sensible mature students!! Glad we went for a private room as the dorms seem a bit primative!
