Friday 20th November - First day in Christchurch

Hudson:

Woke up at a pretty normal time which seemed remarkable given all the travelling and changes in time zones, our bodies must be in shock.

Took a bus over to the Christchurch suburb of Sumner a nice little beach town.  Walked along the Esplanade and Scarborough Beach - No joke!  Walked through some pretty cool caves and had a nice chat to a local bloke.

First general impressions of Kiwi people are good.  They are very friendly and seem very proud of their country and want to show it off, but in an endearing and not overbearing way.

Back in town we had a quick look round the Christchurch Catherdral.  I know it's not the building itself that governs whether a church has cathedral status, but we both agreed that on looks alone it just looks like a "nice church", but hey what do we know!

After a brief diversion to buy a swimming costume in a department store, which was like 'Grace Brothers' (complete with very helpful shop assistant who wanted to know all about where we lived and would love to visit to sample the culture - funny) we had a lovely walk along the river through the park.

Not much more to say on Christchurch other than it does have a very English feel about it.  From the Anglican churches to the punts along the river, we keep forgetting where we are quite a home from home :)
