Off to Kuranda today and a trip on the scenic railway up to Kuranda and down again on the cable car or Skyrail as they call it. The skyrail runs just above the rainforest canopy so you can get some cool views.
The train ride was great we slowly rose through the forest and got some great views across to the bays. I am actually worried that we were on another train trip - maybe we are train enthusiasts!
In Kuranda we went to a butterfly centre where they had all of the native butterflys and moths, which seemed very friendly and happy to land on us. It was pretty interesting as we went around the breeding lab they have there and we got to see some massive moths:
We then jumped on the skyrail to make our way back down to Cairns. There were a number of stops you could get off at, first one was Barron Falls:
The next one was Red Hill where we jumped off and did a very short walk. All we saw was a stick insect which was a little annoying as you know the place is full of cool wildlife, but you just don't see any of it as it's all hidden, although on the other side of that there are some things I wouldn't have wanted to see so maybe it was for the best.
Back down at the bottom and our next stop was the Aboriginal Centre. It's a cultural centre where you are introduced to some of the Aboriginal culture and learn about traditional foods and medicines. Of course the trip wouldn't be complete without a bit of spear and boomerang throwing. We both did really well with both!
When we got back we did the obligatory pool trip before heading out for the night.
