Monday 1st Feb - Great Barrier Reef

Handley:

Today is Reef day.  We set off nice and early and headed to the first reef.  The day involved 3 chances to snorkell on 3 different reefs.

Due to the time of year we had to wear very attractive stinger suits as the jellyfish can be a bit dnagerous.... imagine skin tight lycra suits with hoods and mittens.... needless to say there are no photos of us in them!!

The snorkelling was amazing and we saw so many different types of fish and yes of course we found Nemo!

Each snorkell spot got better until we stopped at our last reef and this was by far the best of the day.  By this point the tide had gone out so we were floating about a metre above the reef and fish about the length of my leg were swimming right past our faces.

Alot of people saw sharks and I would have too if I hadn't kept looking in the other direction... if I couldn't see them I could happily live in denial that they weren't really there.... what's that you say there are 3 sharks below us hmm ok ooo look at that parrot fish up ahead la la la la la laa!!

I'm so glad that we managed to get out there - with some of the recent rain we didn't know if it would be possible, but luckily we had a good day for it!

Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures, well any good pictures from the surface so no pics to post, but we did have a disposable underwater camera so hopefully a few of those pics will come out nice..... we will all have to wait and see on that one though!
